Florida 2012 – Day 12 (Wednesday 6th June 2012)

Not a good night’s sleep. At about 0420 I was woken up by a thunderstorm. Realising the time was gone 0900 back home, I booked 4 tickets to the Olympic torch event at South Park (Oxford) which was free. Eventually guessing what the council had set the password too!(this was later fixed I belive). After waking up to a grey overcast yet 30oc day I ate a slice of last nights pizza cold, yummy. Then we set off to visit the beach again at Naples Pier.

It started raining on the drive to it. We parked up and waited to see if the drizzle would stop… It didn’t, so we drove around the area admiring all the posh boutique shops and luxurious houses. Most of them MASSIVE with balconies. The places looking over the Gulf Coast must cost about $3million. With the rain stopping we went back to the car park and paid the meter. Heading for the pier whilr taking photos of the “Naples Pier” sign for a couple then two old ladies me and Vicky had one. When we got on the pier it wad quite windy and the sea was choppy. This didn’t stop people fishibg. At the very end of the pier we looked put west and saw 2-3 dolphins actually jumping out of the sea. It was an amazing sight seeing them in the wild. Jumping really high. On the walk back down we saw a white bird in distress, he had been caught by a hook. They managed to get him up to the deck and take the hook out. Stupidly throwing the drenched bird back out. It couldnt fly out of the water because of this. Eventually it had the energy to fly off. Then as we carried on back to land there was done commotion with a girl getting a large round net. This time a pelican had a hook in his neck. After a good few minutes of them trying to get the bird in the net, only for it to try and fly away the hook got released and the bird flew away.

We went back to the villa for some Turkey rolls with my fave potatoe salad.
